The Editing Process
The document is then passed to an editor on our team that has the qualifications matching your request. This editor edits the document completely as many times as necessary, highlighting areas that require clarification or confirmation. The editor then prints the document out on paper with the editorial changes accepted to edit this particular editor’s final copy. The new changes are inserted into the document, and this first editor presents what they feel is a final copy to the Quality Control Editor. The Quality Control Editor edits the original document with all of the editorial changes visible, ensuring that the authors’ intent was maintained and no errors were introduced into the document. The Quality Control Editor also addresses any areas highlighted by the first editor. The Quality Control Editor then prints out a final copy of the edited manuscript with all of the editorial changes accepted and edits this finalized version once more. The new changes are inserted into the document and the document is then formatted for the journal specified, ensuring that word limits are adhered to, references are formatted correctly, etc. The manuscript is then returned to the client via email. Occasionally, a third editor is asked to review the final manuscript, as another quality control check.
All of our editors are scientists. As such, they refer to the figures, tables, and bibliography to ensure that the edited documents accurately reflect the intended meaning of the author. Please take advantage of this strength by including the figures, tables, and bibliography with the text of the manuscript to be edited.
After the Edited Material is Returned to the Author
A clear dialogue between SciTechEdit and our Clients is a critical component to producing the highest quality edited materials. Once the edited manuscript is returned, the author should carefully read the manuscript to ensure that their ideas are presented correctly and that the intended meaning has not been altered. SciTechEdit will continue to work with the author to polish the edited material after the author has reviewed it. Questions regarding the editorial changes are expected and welcome. Please submit questions to SciTechEdit by email. Further, if the author would like to make any minor changes, we are happy to review these changes prior to submission of the manuscript for publication at no additional cost.
Edited Material Returned on Time
Edited materials will always, without exception, be returned on time. All material will be returned to the author via email by midnight of the date it is due. Please note that SciTechEdit International is located in Denver, Colorado, and midnight refers to local time in Denver, Colorado. If you do not receive your edited material by this time, please contact SciTechEdit immediately and/or check your junk email folder. The usual sources of delayed receipt are full mailboxes, and problems with email servers either erroneously blocking emails from SciTechEdit or categorizing the email as “junk” or “spam” email.
